Default What GPS unit you use?

I do alot of offroading with atvs and dirtbikes. I try to go to colorado once or twice a yr. I need a gps that does mountain trails and also normal streets. I do have an iphone 4s and heard you can get apps that do topo maps and geocache's. Anyone have a gps unit they recommend or apps for the iphone? Everyone seems to go for the garmin handhelds like the etrex, vista, dakota, etc. Any other brands to look at?

After using Garmin for years I found a Beacon GPS logger (non-realtime) that showed the small details in overlays on Google Earth or Google Maps.

Then we bought Android OS smartphones and use the apps like Latitude, TeleNav, Maps and Navigation.

Being used to Google Earth and Google Maps overlays we like any app that uses this layout with the satellite view.

The one I chose years ago for realtime tracking of my truck's location is blacklinegps' "The Snitch".

I mainly need one for mountain trails like topo maps and stuff. Just wondering if the iphone is completely capable of doin this or i need to get a handheld. I got a Lifeproof case thats completely water proof so not worried about damage to my phone really.

i use a tom tom, it's handy as a speedometer since mine don't work, and it tells me the speed limits which is handy when i see a cop up ahead. as for navigation, it's hit and miss. It'll get you there after it makes you take a couple one lane roads, and go in a circle or 2. i think the tom tom people are watching me and laughing about the route they tell me to take.
