Installed a MBRP 4" Exhaust pics and vids
Installed the 4" MBRP.
Well it took longer than I expected but it's on and everything is tight. Drove it into town and not one rattle but I'm checking all the clamps and clearances later any way. Fighting the downpipe band clamp took longer than anything. The factory installed position is in the back so it's hard to get to and once loosened the ratchet binds into the firewall insulation. So after trial and error the band clamp kept rotating down instead of up where I could get to it. I made a heavy wire hook that let me pull it back up over the top. I used my 18V Li-Ion Milwaukee Sawzall to cut the down pipe off at the bell housing. Then a cut behind the Walker Big Truck Muffler to remove old system. Started at the end of the downpipe fitting pieces together per diagram installation instructions. Cut the pipe before the muffler delete short about 14". Started at the tailpipe adjusting and tightening clamps working toward the front. The downpipe clamp was the last one tightened. Bent the transmission / passenger floorboard heat shield a little for clearance issues but not much. I had dropped the pyrometer sensor fitting down in the engine fighting the downpipe clamp but luckily found it by the driver's front tire. Removing the MAP sensor from the top of the A/C evaporator box made it a lot easier to access the limited space to the downpipe clamp. Vid of system before removal Exhaust sound before tear-down. sounds like mine! ha ha, i wish i painted mine black. The guy I traded for mine owned the shop and installed it for me in about 45mins.

Looks like I will need a heat shield for the spare tire,
the over axle pipe is very close @ the mounted spare. There is a bracket there for it, I just need to make one out of sheet metal. |
Nice, downpipe was the hardest on mine too!
Do you just have pyro in downpipe? or do you have manifold and downpipe to see the delta in temps? Just curious as I have thought about that setup. |
Just the downpipe on mine,
I've heard the manifold pyro is a more accurate measure of EGTs. |
Yeah, supposedly so. I have mine in the manifold currently. I dont know if one is better than the other really. I know temps should be a couple hundred degrees cooler in the downpipe so as long as you keep that in mind and know what the max temp is there compared to the manifold.

Great write up and it sounds alot better!! Nice work.
