What oil do you run?

How many run the rotella? Or rotella synthetic? I seen a disscussuon on another forum about how rotella was junk but I've ran it for years and years. I had a 99 F350 7.3 with 472,000 on it when we sold it. Always ran rotella in it. What's yall's thoughts?

tdrive0001 03-26-2012 11:18 AM

Rotella T6 for me. I only use fleetgard filters. LF 16035 oil and FS 19856 fuel. Got to change mine now... My cost at work for this was just over $92...

Rotella was factory fill for caterpillar for ages... most companies (including Cummins) use delo 400 now...

Big'un 03-26-2012 11:26 AM

Motorcraft :D

06VT365 03-26-2012 11:36 AM

Rotella here. Sometimes I run synthetic but not every time. Always motorcraft filters.

Bdons-SD 03-26-2012 01:08 PM

Rotella, sometimes I go synthetic, but always rotella with a motorcraft filter. My dad uses castrol in his 7.3.

Rotella 15w40 + 2 quarts Lucas Synthetic Stabilizer, Motocraft FL 1995 and one 12oz bottle of Prolong in the HPOP.
I ran full synthetic last change and will switch back this change.
I always gauge the condition of the dipstick as an indicator of the deposits left behind by inferior oils.
If I can't see the cross hatches on the dipstick thru the oil then it is dirty enough for a change.

My uncle is the shop steward/foreman for Cummins Crosspoint LLC, Cross Lanes, WV.
For 40 years he has worked there.

He says they used Valvoline with the ultraviolet dye marker for break-in oil on the larger engines like the QSK70
at that rebuild shop.
IDK maybe they switched to Delo 400 since he told me that.

I'm goin to start using that lucas stabizer too. I gotta fix my oil leak first.

Bigbluediesel08 03-26-2012 01:55 PM

Valvoline premium or extreme blue.

Rotella 15w-40 Here!

Stroked68 03-26-2012 08:42 PM

I use motorcraft in my stuff. My truck was always serviced at ford with motorcraft goodies so why change it? 275k and still goin strong. I did buy some different lube for my front and rear end, just lazy and havnt done it yet. I think its lucus oils.

Agjake11 03-26-2012 10:13 PM

Motorcraft for now but gonna try my hand at some valvoline premium blue very soon

blacksmoking 04-01-2012 10:56 PM

I run rotella 15-40 in the cummins, my papaw runs it in everything. Including his gassers. Some mechanic 30 years ago told him " if it's good enough for a diesel, it's good enough for a gas engine" I have been unable to convince him otherwise.

Big'un 04-01-2012 11:08 PM

I put sum castrol gtx 5w30 in my truck today

blacksmoking 04-01-2012 11:12 PM

That's what i use in the gassers.

We're talking apples and oranges there... the QSK 70 is a full blown industrial engine. I can see the use of oil dye in those. The ISB was initially a light industrial/ equipment engine that was adapted to the automotive platform.

5qts plus a fram filter special at AZ $19.99 , but i had to buy a extra quart and a motorcraft filter , so i got a fram that will fit the ol ladys car

blacksmoking 04-02-2012 10:27 PM

We use fram filters for the gassers, not sure what i put on the cummins. I've only changed it once, and forgot what i bought. it's white though.

Big'un 04-02-2012 10:31 PM

fram filters suck on fords , makes them knock when u first crank them

Bdons-SD 04-02-2012 10:42 PM

FRAM :suicide:

They had a similar deal on fram out here. I put one on once and it kept working loose and dripped. Not talking like pouring, just enough to drip.

07_powerstroke 04-02-2012 11:53 PM

Valvoline premium blue with 2 bottles of rev x along with a motorcraft filter.

Midnight Smoker 04-03-2012 10:32 AM
